Liked his attention to detail
Would recommend to anyone interested in Comint or Elint intelligence gathering loved the C-130 and U2 as well as the T-38 stories
Regrettably, it's a short book! I was googly entering the many stories and incidents when suddenly it ended. The book is very well-written and certainly jerks my interest. I'm an aviation buff and this was an ideal read for me.
I enjoyed the book. Not a self serving writer he paints a good impression of himself and other pilots. Easy to recommend.
First half is a collection of stories unrelated to U-2 and apparently intended to impress the reader with the author’s conversance with high school potty humor and drinking. Is also poorly edited, having numerous basic grammatical errors.
Second half is fairly interesting, but probably only so if you are a pilot or love airplanes.
I chose this book because I understood from other reading that the U-2 is a very difficult airplane to fly. I wanted to find out how a pilot could fly this airplane and still enjoy the experience. This memoir is so well written and so engaging that all of it stands out, not just the pages about the U-2.
The book is in three sections, by aircraft type, with U2 bringing up the rear.
Some stories better left untold if actual names and ranks were involved.
Interesting look at the U2... too bad it was so short.
This could have been so much more interesting if the editor and publisher had done a better job of the editing process and guiding the writer during the process. All the 'laddish' behaviour could have been left out at no loss. Plus really only the last part of the book was about his U2 missions.
